RUDGE MODEL SPECIFICATION

FRAME

Bolt on seat stays with drawback type chainstays for rear wheel adjustment. Torque tubes from engine plates to rear wheel.

WHEELS

Interchangeable with black enamelled rims. Black spokes with NPB nipples. Dogged drive to take separate rear sprocket carrier assembly. Tyres Dunlop Cord 700 x 80 with 2 security bolts.

FORKS

Spring Forks. (Regd. No 546796/09.) Closed end, D section. Perfect steering complete insulation from road vibration at any speed.

HANDLEBARS

Fixed 7/8" handlebars type 110 with folded type inverted levers.

BRAKES

Front and rear acting on drum. Dummy belt rim front and rear.

MUDGUARDS

D section 5” front and rear. Rear with patent combined number plate and hinged rear guard extension for rapid removal of wheel. Number plates on front mudguard and rear guard extension.

CARRIER

(Regd Design No. 567465.) Tubular frame. Steel plate in centre space. Metal tray with side extensions for tool boxes.

TANKS

Two and a half gallon petrol tank with double gold lined panels fitted between frame rails (flat tank). Single 2" external screw type filler. Brass lever petrol tap. Three pint oil tank mounted on rear frame down tube across the frame with spring loaded filler to offside.

ENGINE

4 valve 499cc with cast iron open valve cylinder head, parallel inlet valves and parallel exhaust. Rebound spring between rockers. Forward facing parallel exhaust ports with flange fitting to exhausts.18mm side plug. Rockers supported on cast support with clamps to rocker spindles. Square scalloped based cylinder barrel and plain drive side crankcase. Total loss oiling with Best & Lloyd pump mounted on timing cover. 

GEARBOX

Four speed suspended gearbox with hand change on RHS of tank (open gate). Crossover to gearchange on left hand side of gearbox. Gearbox with external kickstarter stop and double helical gears. Aluminium primary chain cover and aluminium rear chainguard painted black. Standard gear set 4.5 to 1, 6.5 to 1, 10 to 1 & 14.5 to 1. 

CLUTCH

Rudge dry plate on gearbox, Spring drive and shock absorber on engine shaft.

TRANSMISSION

Chain: 5/8 x 3/8. engine to gearbox and from gearbox to back wheel. Chain cover and chain guard.

CARBURETTOR

Stub fitting Senspray with 2 lever control.

EXHAUST SYSTEM

Twin 1 1/2” nickel plated short down pipes into horizontal aluminium expansion chamber mounted in front of the crankcase. Tail pipe to rear wheel.

MAGNETO

Forward mounted ML Maglita or round ML magneto.

LIGHTING

Available with no lights or available with 4V ML lighting. Headlamp mounted on tubular supports. Lighting control mounted on top frame rail. ML battery carrier mounted on offside of rear carrier.

SADDLE

Large padded seat.

STANDS

Rear, foot operated automatic spring return. Front, folding stand to front wheel supports front mudguard.

PUMP

18-inch celluloid tyre inflator with long rubber connection and ground supports.

TOOLBOX

Two armoured type fitted to rear carrier, with full set of Rudge tools.

EXTRAS

6V lighting set.
