RUDGE ENTHUSIASTS CLUB
BRINGING RUDGE ENTHUSIASTS TOGETHER
Reclaiming original Registration Number
DVLA V765 Scheme

Warning – Please do not dismantle your machine before applying to retain the original registration number.
Applications to be supported by acceptable documentary evidence, two recent photographs, one of each side of the machine and one each of the Frame & Engine numbers or rubbings of the Frame & engine numbers (the same as brass rubbings). Please note the photographs must be clear & not blurred as they will go to Swansea for Authorization. Complete DVLA Forms V765 and V55/5, which will be returned with the photographs (digital photographs are accepted).
The club makes a standard charge for this service depending whether the applicant is a member of the REC or not. Please consult with the machine registrar for the charge to be applied. Payment by cheque should be made to the Rudge Enthusiasts Club Ltd. All machines will be inspected on behalf of the Club and must be in an assembled condition. Reasonable travailing expenses of the inspector will be agreed and covered by the application.
In cases were the old log book (RF6O/VE6O) is held then everything should proceed smoothly. Warning: under no circumstances should you send an original old log book to Swansea or the club machine registrar for if it is lost in the post it cannot be replaced.
The DVLA advise that owners may take these to their local Vehicle Registration Office who will provide a certified photocopy, bearing the VRO stamp, which may then be forwarded with application. However, only copies certified in this manner can be accepted. Alternative evidence will be considered by the DVLA, in the form of pre-1983 tax discs, pre-1983 MOT certificate, pre-1983 insurance certificate, pre-1983 bill of sale, which must confirm the Frame number. Archive or Library Records or other pre-1983 documentary evidence may be considered.
It is always advisable to ascertain from the DVLA that your registration number is not currently on their computer, as this will save you going through the whole application process only to perhaps find that the number has been re-issued, with the only recourse then being to apply for an age-related number. The DVLA Enquiry Unit telephone number is 0300 790 6802.
Please note that the final decision on acceptance of all applications rests with the DVLA and, if rejected, the Club’s fee is not refundable.

Age-Related Registrations
Issue of Dating Certificates to assist in the issue of an age-related number. A clear, close-up photo of each side of the machine as well as Frame and Engine number stampings must always be provided, or rubbings of the Frame & Engine numbers, (the same as brass rubbings) these must be clear and not blurred as they will be sent to Swansea for inspection, plus a note of the gearbox number. Also include a return stamped self-addressed envelope.
The Machine Dating Officer will then issue a Dating Certificate to support applications for DVLA age related registrations. In all cases it will be necessary for the Machine Registrar or his nominee to inspect the machine to verify its identity and age. Once you have the Certificate you will need to go to your DVLA Local Office taking with you:
1. Proof of your identity.
2. A valid MOT and insurance documents, which can quote the Frame number.
3. The REC Ltd. Age Related Certificate.
4. DVLA form V55/5, to be sent with the Age Related Certificate.
5. The photo’s and rubbings of the Machine, Frame & engine numbers which will be returned by the machine registrar with the age related Certificate.
The club makes a standard charge for this service depending whether the applicant is a member of the REC LTD or not. Please consult with the machine registrar for the charge to be applied. Payment by cheque should be made to the Rudge Enthusiasts Club Ltd.
The DVLA may allocate a Registration number immediately or arrange to inspect the machine before doing so in order to verify the Frame and Engine numbers, and that it does exist as a complete machine.
It does help if you take the machine with you (ride or trailer), as if not too busy they may inspect the machine there and then, which will speed up the process.
Before commencing a ‘rebuild’ it is advisable to have the frame number checked to ascertain the bike’s history. Members may also wish to use this service to check validity when purchasing a machine. When writing, please include a stamped, self addressed envelope with your request. To initialise an application you may write by post to the Club’s Machine Registrar.
